Executive Editor at Palikasamaya.com, Kamal Bohora was attacked on June 7 in Kailali. Kailali district is situated in Sudurpaschim Province, Nepal.
Speaking to Freedom Forum, journalist Bohora shared that he has been covering news about alleged illegal activities in community forests in Mohanyal Rural Municipality, Kailali. According to him, two individuals on a motorcycle attacked him at around 9:00 pm. He alleged that attackers were informed of his presence by the forest official. Bohora sustained minor injuries to his face, hands and legs in the attack. Security persons took the attackers under control preventing more serious harm.
Following the incident, police facilitated discussion among the journalist and attackers on June 8. During the meeting, the attackers apologized and Bohora agreed not to register the case.
Freedom Forum is concerned over the attack on journalist Bohora. Journalists reporting on environmental issues frequently face intimidation and threats. Hence, FF urges the concerned authorities to ensure the safety and security of journalists covering news from the field.
