Unknown Group Vandalizes Tarai Times Daily

An unknown group barged into the office of Tarai Times Daily, a newspaper from Dhanusha at around 9.30 PM night on October 20, Monday and vandalized office furniture and destroyed important official documents.

The unidentified group also manhandled journalist Kamal Sah and computer operator Jaya Kumar Yadav locking them inside the newspaper office located at Shivachowk nearby Agriculture Development Bank in Janakpur, according to Chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Umesh Sah.

A group of journalists submitted a memorandum to Chief District officer of Dhanusha this morning, demanding stern actions against the perpetrators within three days, said Sah, adding, they also threatened agitation after three days of ultimatum if the guilty were not punished.

Freedom Forum deplores the incident of vandalism of the newspaper office terming it a thorough violation of press freedom and freedom of expression. The Forum asks the government to foil such attempts of ill elements who do not wish the media to flourish and create congenial environment for journalists to discharge their duty without any menace and interruption.
