Newspaper Office Vandalism

An unruly group vandalized the office of Janalakshya Daily being published from Itahari and thrashed journalists in Itahari of Sunsari, an eastern district on August 1, Friday night, taking over the covering of news.

The hooligans gheraoed and vandalized newspaper office venting their ire on news journalist Suman Puri covered regarding sex worker's Women Assistance Group recently registered in the District Administration Office, Sunsari.

According to Subid Guragain, editor of the newspaper, a group led by women assistance group member Sapana Malla manhandled journalist Puri and caused damages to publishing materials in the newspaper office.
 
The police arrested Sapana Malla including other three for involving in vandalizing the newspaper office.
 
An investigation into the incident is underway and those other involved are being searched, said Area Police Office, Itahari.
 
Freedom Forum deplores the incident of vandalism carried out in the newspaper office and demand strong actions against such unscrupulous group to curb this type of perpetration in press freedom of Nepal.
