Journalist Rajan Dahal Manhandled

Freedom Forum's attention has been drawn towards an incident occurred at Makwanpur, a city in the central region of Nepal, on December 12, 2011.

Two journalists- Rajan Dahal 'Rashik' affiliated with the Avenues TV, and Pratap Bista, reporter with the Kanitpur daily were manhandled while making news about a program, Christian Festival in Hetauda.

In a telephonic conversation with Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk, journalist Dahal said, "Program organizers manhandled us, saying they did not need to make news about the program."

Such interference with the news collection directly hinders journalist's right to make news on public events. That is: it has obstructed the free flow of information.

Freedom Forum therefore urges the concerned bodies to be aware about the news and journalists' rights thereby respecting citizens' right to information.
