Death Threat Issued on Reporter Gole

Reporter with the Nayapatrika daily, Raj Kumar Gole, has been issued death threat over the news he wrote about school fee in Kavre, an adjoining district to the Kathmandu Valley, on July 11, 2012.

Talking to Freedom Forum's Media Monitoring Desk, reporter Gole said an individual named Pradip Lama threatened him over a phone saying, "Why did you write news about school fee? I'll break your hand and kill you if you continue writing news about schools."

Gole further said he was threatened after he published a news story about the exorbitant fee the private schools were imposing on parents by breaching the rule.

Journalists in Nepal have been the butt of threats and attack from different persons and groups merely because they expose the malpractices in various sectors including education.

Freedom Forum condemns the incident and strongly urges the local administration to take action on Lama who panicked journalist Gole. Also, the administration needs to remain vigil to preempt the possible attack on the journalist.
