Journo threatened of life over news

Freedom Forum has been concerned over an incident of press freedom violation occurred in Gorkha, a hilly district of western region of Nepal, on 3 November 2012.

A timber entrepreneur threatened Ramesh Bista, reporter to a local Radio Gorkha, of life over the news he made and aired in the FM about timber smuggling some days back.

Talking to Media Monitoring Desk of the Freedom Forum, Mr Bista said, "Timber entrepreneur Man Bahadur Poudel phoned me at night and threatened of life."

"You've no right to live now, because you made news about timber," the threat came this way over the phone 9856034504.

The threat is a violation of press freedom. Such incidents are responsible for creating self-censorship among journalists. And, the self-censorship jeopardizes free and fair journalism.

Therefore, Freedom Forum strongly urges local authority to nab entrepreneur Poudel and take action.
