RSS Reporter attacked in capital city

Freedom Forum has been concerned over an attack on journalist in the capital city on May 3, 2013.

Reporter with the National News Agency of Nepal (RSS), Ramesh Lamsal, was attacked by an unknown gang at Nepaltar of the capital city, Kathmandu, on the night of May 3 while he was returning home from the office.

Talking to Freedom Forum's media monitoring desk, reporter Lamsal said, "As soon as my office vehicle dropped me near home, four persons come in two motorcycles attacked me and kicked me with boots. I got bruises. After a while some army men from nearby barrack arrived but the attackers already fled."

According to him, the attackers said, "You are the man writing news. See, it is what you get for writing news."

With this, it is evident that the attack was coordinated. He was attacked for his profession- news writing. It is a violation of press freedom.

Freedom Forum, therefore, vehemently condemns the attack and strongly demands the local authority and security to search, arrest and take action on the attackers.
